• CS Duale responded to questions from Members of Parliament (MPs) Hon. T.J. Kajwang (Ruaraka) and Hon. Anthony Oluoch (Mathare) regarding the ongoing recovery of riparian land along Nairobi Rivers as part of the multi-agency Climate Worx Mtaani initiative aimed at ecological restoration.

On October 15, 2024, the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Hon. Aden Duale made an appearance before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Environment, Forestry, and Mining, chaired by Nakuru Town East MP Hon. David Gikaria, at Bunge Towers.

During the session, CS Duale responded to questions from Members of Parliament (MPs) Hon. T.J. Kajwang (Ruaraka) and Hon. Anthony Oluoch (Mathare) regarding the ongoing recovery of riparian land along Nairobi Rivers as part of the multi-agency Climate Worx Mtaani initiative aimed at ecological restoration.

Duale emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to reclaiming all riparian land along the 47-kilometer Nairobi rivers ecosystem, regardless of ownership of the encroaching structures. He pledged to restore the rivers to their original pristine state within 18 months.

“I reiterated the government's commitment to reclaiming all riparian land along Nairobi's river ecosystem. The multi-agency Climate Worx Mtaani initiative aims to restore the rivers to their pristine state within 18 months," Duale stated.

He also noted that the Nairobi Rivers Commission, established by the President, is awaiting the tabling of the Gazette Notice before Parliament, a process he promised to expedite.

Additionally, regarding the proposed nuclear power plant in Uyombo, Kilifi North, Duale informed the Committee that a comprehensive social and environmental impact assessment is currently underway.
