• Earth Day offers a chance for humanity to look beyond their desires and appreciate all the species that share this planet.

The 2025 Mother Earth Day should focus on healing the planet. Despite its beauty, Earth is facing significant destruction. Our planet is home to numerous species of plants and animals, yet, blinded by the need for comfort, humans are destroying their own habitat.

Earth Day offers a chance for humanity to look beyond their desires and appreciate all the species that share this planet.

World Earth Day, celebrated every April 22, 2025, provides an opportunity to recognize the beauty of our planet. Currently, Earth faces threats from pollution, deforestation, climate change, and endangered species.

On this day, environmental enthusiasts come together to celebrate the power of nature and its role in healing various aspects of life. Today, take a moment to appreciate nature—take a walk, sit under a tree, or visit a park.

What are People Saying About this Day?

@ParveenKaswan: "Today on #EarthDay remember the earth belongs to all creatures, not just humans."

@Naveen_Odisha: "The Earth, our only home, calls all of us to adopt harmonious living with nature, which is healthier for both the planet and mankind. On #EarthDay, let’s pledge to protect the environment, nurture healthy ecosystems, expand green cover, shun plastic, and use more renewable energy for a sustainable future."

@KeForestService: "This Earth Day, we recognize that the power to protect our planet lies in our hands. By restoring forests and supporting clean, renewable energy, we can build a sustainable, healthy, and equitable future."

In the quest for energy, humans have resorted to cutting down trees. Similarly, the pursuit of industrial advancement has led to the release of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.

The theme for the 2025 Mother Earth Day is "Our Power, Our Planet," with a focus on renewable energy. In Kenya, 81.16% of the energy supplied to the national grid comes from renewable sources, with thermal plants contributing 8.42% and imports accounting for 10.41%.

Within the renewable sector, geothermal energy dominates, followed by hydro and wind generation, representing 24.74% and 3.46% respectively. This is according to the latest biannual report by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) for the financial year 2024/2025.

EPRA Director General Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria emphasizes the ongoing transformation in the energy sector. He notes that the rising adoption of e-mobility has led to a substantial increase in electricity consumption, reaching 1.80 GWh.

"We have seen the energy landscape continue to evolve, driven by growing demand, advancements in infrastructure, and the increasing adoption of sustainable energy solutions," Bargoria stated.
