On April 4, 2025, Chief Officer of Environment in Nairobi Geoffrey Mosiria and his team shut down an illegal dumping site along Bins Road in Mukuru Kwa Ruben, which had been unlawfully set up beside the road.

During the operation, the team seized several lorries that had been dumping waste at the site and took them to the county yard to serve as evidence when their owners are arraigned in court.

“We shall continue to close down all illegal dumping sites in the city. For us to end illegal dumping in Nairobi, we have to start from the source where the garbage is coming from, the people involved in the illegal dumping, because these are the biggest polluters that we have in the city,” he said.

Since taking office, Mosiria has shown quality leadership skills and dedication to environmental conservation, sustainable waste management, and innovative green initiatives, which have significantly transformed Nairobi’s environmental landscape.

In recent days, Mosiria has been so active with his team in the streets of Nairobi joining hands with hundreds of volunteers, including youth groups and traders, cleaning the streets, markets, and public spaces.

One of his most notable achievements was being named Kenya’s Best Chief Officer at the prestigious Starleaders Awards 2025, hosted by Politrack Africa Ltd.

For years, Nairobi has struggled with issues of waste disposal, environmental degradation, and even deforestation. Under his leadership, waste collection systems have been improved, significantly reducing the amount of garbage in Nairobi City.
