Narok County has launched the School Greening Program, which will see 723 out of the 923 schools across all sub-counties receive fruit trees. This initiative aligns with the national target of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.

According to Narok County Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu, the School Greening Program is part of a broader collaboration between the County Government and the World Bank under Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA).

“Through the School Greening Program, 723 of the 923 schools across all sub-counties will receive fruit trees, contributing to the national target of planting 15 billion trees by 2032,” Governor Ole Ntutu said in a statement on X.

In addition to the tree-planting program, the County Government distributed 3,000 clean cooking stoves to households across Narok as part of its County Energy Plan initiatives. Each of the 100 wards in the county received 100 units of eco-friendly cooking appliances.

"The clean cooking stoves being distributed will benefit 3,000 households countywide, with 100 units allocated to each ward. This distribution is part of our County Energy Plan initiatives," the Governor added.

The School Greening Program and clean cooking stove distribution are crucial to Narok County's broader efforts to fight climate change as well as promote environmental sustainability.

"Kenya, and indeed the entire world, has experienced the severe consequences of climate change. A sure way to combat this is through environmental conservation. Tree planting, embracing green energy, and adopting environmentally friendly cooking methods are crucial steps towards mitigating climate change," Governor Ole Ntutu emphasized.

These initiatives align with President Ruto's 2022 program, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, stop and reverse deforestation, and restore millions of hectares of deforested and degraded landscapes.
