Water is an indispensable and essential resource for every living thing, especially the human race. We use water to wash, cook, and clean our bodies, water animals, irrigate crops for plentiful produce, and drink to keep our bodies hydrated, especially in extreme heat waves.

Therefore, the scarcity of this integral resource is a headache for many individuals.

Amref Health Africa (AHA) in Kenya reports on how the scarcity of water negatively affects education, particularly girls.

"Girls always face the tough choice between fetching water and attending school. Investing in water infrastructure is investing in their future," Amref said in part.

Notably, 23% of sub-Saharan African schools need more safe water. This clearly shows that water challenges still exist and need to be addressed to save lives, for water is indeed life.

As the effects of climate change continue to rise, leading to an increase in drought in most parts of Africa, water availability is also threatened. Sustainable water management efforts will, therefore, come in handy in shaping the future of water availability in Africa at large.

Water is the lifeblood of our planet and important for all forms of life. It is a crucial element for sustainable development. Unfortunately, it is alarming that millions of people globally do not have access to clean water, a challenge that is being exacerbated by climate change.

The annual World Water Week conference is taking place. Amref calls for efforts to address the water problem in the sub-Saharan region. Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) organizes the conferences every year. This year's conference is ongoing online and in Stockholm, Sweden. It shall culminate on August 29, 2024.

The conference broadly centers on water cooperation for peace and security. The theme, "Bridging Borders: Water for Peaceful and Sustainable Future," spearheads the conference.

The conference aims to be a hands-on conference for individuals who would like to use water as a tool to change the world and promote opportunities for practical water cooperation.
