During a meeting of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), President William Ruto called on African leaders to advocate for equitable climate financing. He has emphasized that new funding must align with the magnitude of the climate crisis, urging that the agenda for COP29 focus on establishing a fair and effective climate financing mechanism.

“Today, we are aligning our position for the COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November. This meeting serves as a strategic step in our preparations,” Ruto stated.

The CAHOSCC meeting took place on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In his remarks, Ruto highlighted the need for increased global investment in energy transition, which currently stands at 3%. He underscored that these investments are crucial for facilitating effective climate adaptation across the continent.

To achieve meaningful climate adaptation, he stressed the importance of investing in Africa’s resources, including renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, green transport, and nature-based solutions.

“These investments will enable low-carbon, climate-resilient development, not only for Africa but also for the global community,” Ruto said, reinforcing the continent's commitment to a sustainable future.
