Kenya is making significant strides in enhancing its biodiversity conservation efforts, as highlighted by the Principal Secretary in the State Department of Environment and Climate Change Eng. F. Ngeno during a recent statement at the UN Biodiversity Conference High-Level Thematic Ministerial Dialogues.

Ngeno has emphasized that the country’s commitment to updating its National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) is in alignment with the Kenya Marine and Great Lakes Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).

“We are undertaking a robust process of aligning the NBSAP with the overarching goals and targets of the KMGBF. We have submitted our 25 national targets aligned with the global targets on July 31, 2024,” Ngeno stated.

Ngeno has elaborated on Kenya's dedication to a comprehensive strategy that involves both governmental and societal participation. “Kenya has adopted a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach in reviewing the NBSAP, engaging all stakeholders to ensure that conservation efforts are inclusive and foster ownership,” he said. This collaborative effort aims to build partnerships for collective action in biodiversity conservation.

The discussions at the UN conference provided a platform for Kenya to reaffirm its commitment to biodiversity action and to showcase the importance of inclusive strategies in environmental conservation. Ngeno expressed pride in representing Kenya on such a significant global stage, reinforcing the nation’s role in the international biodiversity dialogue.
