President William Ruto has appointed young Kenyan environmental activist Truphena Muthoni as the Ambassador of the 15 Billion Tree Planting Campaign, a flagship national effort aimed at securing Kenya’s environmental future.
On December 15, 2025, he formally recognised her environmental advocacy and announced her new role.

“Truphena Muthoni is an exemplary young Kenyan whose dedication and determination embody the very best of our nation’s spirit," President Ruto has affirmed.
He has highlighted her record breaking feat, spending 72 continuous hours embracing an indigenous tree as a powerful and symbolic act meant to raise both national and global awareness about environmental conservation and climate change. Her gesture, he says, captures the urgency and passion needed to protect the planet.
In recognition of her efforts, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Kenya Tourism Board have offered Muthoni and her team a fully sponsored holiday experience.
“In addition, the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry will support the realization of her dream to visit Brazil, broadening her exposure to global conservation initiatives and environmental leadership,” the President has said.
As a further mark of national honour, President Ruto has conferred upon her the Head of State Commendation (HSC) Medal for her outstanding service to environmental stewardship.
Through a post on her X account, Muthoni has reacted saying, “I lack words to express myself. Thank you, Mr President.”
