In a concerted effort to contribute to Kenya's ambitious tree planting target, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have embarked on an initiative to plant over 450 million trees as part of the country's larger goal of 15 billion trees by 2032.

This significant undertaking is being carried out under the KDF's Environmental Soldier Program, a proactive environmental conservation initiative.

On April 16, 2024, the Kenya Army Corps of Transport, led by Lieutenant Colonel Simon Cherugut, joined forces with the University of Nairobi, Greens of Africa Foundation, and Equity Bank to conduct a tree planting event at the University of Nairobi's Upper Kabete Campus.

The collaborative effort resulted in the successful planting of over 15,000 trees during the event.

The tree planting exercise showcased diverse tree species, including Olea Africana, Mexican Green Ash, Markmia Lutea, White Bottle Brush, Bombeya, Codia, Red Cedar, and Syzgium.

Lieutenant Colonel Cherugut expressed the KDF's vision of achieving environmental safety through extensive tree-planting efforts.
