The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry has earmarked 30 per cent of the 15 billion trees targeted to be planted by 2032 to include fruits, nuts, vegetables and fodder species.

During a meeting with the World Food Programme (WFP’s) Kenya Director Ms. Lauren Landis and the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Aden Duale, the Ministry revealed that this initiative is aimed to support Kenya’s food and nutrition security agenda which is in line with WFP’s mandate.

Their discussion centered on WFP's support for Kenya's broad climate action agenda including the National Landscape & Ecosystem Restoration Strategy that seeks to raise the country's tree cover to 30% by the year 2032.
