• The Ministry has emphasized in a statement that “the growing uptake of electric vehicles will substantially reduce transport sector emissions, helping Kenya achieve her national emission reduction targets.”

On October 30, 2024, the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry Aden Duale officially launched the first 100 fully electric vehicles from auto dealer MojaEv at the company’s offices in Nairobi. This significant milestone marks MojaEv's entry into Kenya's growing e-mobility market, featuring their Skyworth and NETA vehicle brands.

The introduction of these electric vehicles is a crucial initiative aimed at reducing emissions and improving air quality in urban areas. Currently, the transport sector accounts for 10% of Kenya's national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with projections indicating this figure could rise to 17% by 2030.

The transition to e-mobility is central to Kenya's Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategy, as well as the updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and the 3rd National Climate Change Action Plan (NCAP III) launched in 2023 by President Dr. William Ruto at the inaugural Africa Climate Summit.
