In a statement, the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry has highlighted the importance of the environmental sector in job creation as a key strategy to fight the rising unemployment rates in the Country.

“To accelerate the environment sector's contribution to employment creation, the Ministry is spearheading the implementation of the cross-sectoral Green Economy Strategy,” said the Ministry on X. The Ministry notes that a significant barrier to green job creation is the lack of adequate green skills among the workforce.

To address this skills gap, the Ministry is collaborating with various partners, including UN agencies led by the International Labour Organization (ILO). The Ministry is particularly interested in leveraging emerging global initiatives, such as the new Skills for a Green and Just Economy.
