The celebration among the Turkana community celebrates the community’s heritage, traditional music, and dance. This year, the festival aims to advance tourism, cultural heritage, peace, and climate change in the county.

Speaking during a townhall session at Lodwar, Peter Erepete, the County Secretary Turkana County talked about the efforts put up by the County Government of Turkana to promote peace. He explained how the County used cultural heritage as well as cultural diplomacy to promote peace. “We as a county government of Turkana saw it fit to use what we have ;and that is our culture, our traditional norms to address peace,” he stated.

The festival is set to feature a wide range of activities, such as traditional music and dances, exhibitions of local art and craft, and sampling of local cuisines. It will attract participants from the Ateker community in Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan and Ethiopia regions as well as locals and tourists.This will have a positive impact on the economy, as many entrepreneurs are set to benefit. With only a day remaining to the onset of the festival, anticipation is building up the people of Turkana as they are eagerly waiting for this great opportunity for them to show their rich cultural heritage with the world.
