• FLAMA was officially launched on September 7, 2023, by Mama Rachel Ruto at the sidelines of the Africa Climate Summit. From the beginning, it set out to amplify the voices of learners through art, essays, and spoken word, giving them a platform to express their understanding of climate change and environmental stewardship.

The Third Edition of the First Lady’s Mazingira Awards (FLAMA) is currently taking place on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Nakuru State House.

Graced by Kenya’s First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto, the event celebrates young environmental champions from across the country who have shown exceptional creativity and commitment to conservation. It brings together learners, educators, government representatives, and development partners in a shared space of inspiration and action.

FLAMA was officially launched on September 7, 2023, by Mama Rachel Ruto at the sidelines of the Africa Climate Summit. From the beginning, it set out to amplify the voices of learners through art, essays, and spoken word, giving them a platform to express their understanding of climate change and environmental stewardship.

In October 2023, the First Edition took place, celebrating student submissions that tackled climate action with passion and originality.

On October 10, 2024, the Second Edition expanded participation across more counties, gaining visibility and support from development partners. The theme that year, “Restore Our Land, Secure Our Future” highlighted youth-led restoration and the urgent need to protect our ecosystems.

Now, on October 8, 2025, the Third Edition unfolds in Nakuru. The theme “End Pollution, Conserve the Environment” aligns with Kenya’s National Restoration Campaign and the bold goal to plant 15 billion trees by 2032. It’s a call to action, and these young voices are answering it.
