On November 27, 2024, the Cabinet Secretary of Defence Soipan Tuya led her Ministry in a tree planting exercise at Sururu Forest in Nakuru County. This is in line with the government’s directive to plant 15 billion trees in order to achieve 30% tree cover by 2030.
“In line with the President's directive to plant 15 billion trees to achieve 30% tree cover, I led the Ministry of Defence (MoD), teams comprising both civilian and uniformed personnel, alongside members of the local community, in a tree-planting exercise at Sururu Forest, Nakuru County,” CS Sopian said in a post on X.

“This effort contributes to the Ministry’s target of planting 500 million trees as part of this national initiative. The Ministry of Defence remains committed to supporting the Government's efforts to combat climate change, not only by actively participating in national tree-growing programs but advancing the Kenya Defence Forces' Environmental Soldier Programme,” added CS Sopian.
CS Tuya was joined by the Commandant Officer Cadet School, Kenya Military Academy, local leaders from Nakuru County, representatives from the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), and National Government Administration Officers.
