- CS Duale’s assertion mirrors the National Tree Growing Restoration Campaign, an initiative launched by President Ruto with the aim of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.
- The move also points towards reducing greenhouse emissions, stopping and reversing deforestation and restoring 5.1 million hectares of deforested and degraded landscapes.
The Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Aden Duale, has advised Kenyans to honor the sacrifices of the freedom fighters by nurturing the independence they fought so hard to secure.
December 12, 1963, marked a significant milestone in Kenya’s history as it was the day the country was declared an independent republic. This was six months and eleven days after gaining internal self-rule on June 1, 1963 (Madaraka Day) from the United Kingdom.
In the mood of celebrating the founding of the Republic of Kenya, CS Duale has painted the commemoration to represent the people, the land, and the environment. “The fruits of independence, born from the tree of struggle, remind us that true freedom thrives when we care for the roots that sustain us: Our people, our land and our environment,” he opined.
He has further termed the day a chance to reflect on every citizen’s responsibility to preserve and protect Kenya’s beauty.
The former legislator has underscored the importance of planting trees and nurturing the environment, citing benefits to coming generations.
